One of the biggest things recovery is teaching me is that healing starts with being honest with myself and learning to love the parts of me that are still hurting.
When I’m hurting, I tend to shut down, stop talking, and push away the people who care about me most. I think a lot of that comes from things I went through growing up. I learned to protect my heart because I didn’t want to get hurt anymore. But I’m learning that the walls I built to protect myself can also keep out the love, support, and connection I need.
I can’t keep blaming my past for the way I handle things today. My pain is real, and my healing matters, but it’s my responsibility to grow through it. I don’t want to keep pushing people away when all I really need is to feel safe enough to let them in.
I’m learning to give myself grace while still holding myself accountable. Healing isn’t about being perfect or having everything figured out. It’s about recognizing where I fall short, being willing to change, and choosing to do better even when it’s hard. It’s learning that I deserve love, that I don’t have to face everything alone, and that not everyone who gets close to me is going to hurt me.
With God’s help, I’m learning to let go of old fears, open my heart, and stop allowing yesterday’s pain to steal today’s blessings. I know I still have work to do, but I’m proud of myself for being willing to face the things I used to hide from.
I’m a work in progress, learning to love myself, accept love from others, and give myself the same grace I’m learning to give the people around me. I can’t change my past, but I can choose healing, growth, and love today.
One day at a time, with faith in God and hope in my heart. I’m still healing, still growing, and still becoming the person I was created to be.
Good morning with love
Christopher
